FAQ- BOWEN THERAPY

 Q. Is Bowen therapy an ongoing treatment therapy?

No, most conditions are essentially resolved in two to three sessions; however chronic conditions may require more extensive programs. Many clients have routine maintenance treatments at different intervals to maintain body balance and musculo -skeletal integrity, avoid costly regression and as an investment in their health.

Q. I have heard that Bowen can assist with carpal tunnel. Is this true?

Yes, Bowen therapy has had many successes with RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Q. I have been told that you do not need to disrobe for a Bowen therapy treatment. Is this true?

Yes this is correct, Bowen may be done through clothing. However you may be asked to remove bulky items such as thick jumpers or thick jeans that restrict a fluid movement being performed. Ideally clothing should be light and loose with only one layer to work through.

Q. I am pregnant. Can I have Bowen therapy?

Yes, most definitely. Bowen has amazing results for pregnant ladies, assisting with back pain, sacral discomfort and tightness with the diaphragm. But please remember to tell your therapist that you are pregnant when booking your session.

Q. How long does a treatment take?

Treatment times can vary according to the presenting condition and client factors determined during the initial assessment. typical treatment times would range from 30 minutes to one hour

Q. Why should I choose Bowen?

The principal reason for choosing Bowen Therapy is the high rate of success in treating a wide range of presenting conditions. Often this success is achieved where other modalities have failed. In addition being non-invasive and not employing manipulation Bowen therapy is suitable for infants and the elderly. Another feature of Bowen Therapy being a holistic is that conditions other than those for which treatment has been sought are often resolved.

Q. Should I check that my therapist is registered?

Yes. This is important to ensure that your therapist meets the professional practice standards, code of ethics, continuing education, first aid and professional indemnity insurance required by the BTFA.

FAQ- Reiki

Q. What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese name consisting of 2 words Rei and Ki meaning spiritually guided life energy (commonly known as Universal Life Energy), an energy which animates us all and is found all around us.
Reiki is a form of spiritual healing using "Universal Life Energy" channeled through the practitioner to the recipient.

Q. What does Reiki do?

Reiki helps to harmonize body, mind and spirit for yourself or anyone you want to help.

Reiki - a powerful and gentle healer

  • Promotes natural self-healing
  • Balances the energies in the body
  • Balances the organs and glands
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Treats symptoms and causes of illness
  • Relieves pain
  • Clears toxins
  • Adapts to the natural needs of the receiver
  • Enhances personal awareness
  • Relaxes and reduces stress
  • Promotes creativity
  • Releases blocked and suppressed feelings
  • Aids meditation and positive thinking
  • Heals holistically

Q Is Reiki a religion or any other belief system?

No Reiki is not a religion and you do not have to believe in anything special. Reiki is suitable whatever faith or beleifs you  have.
The only thing you need to have is a sincere wish to help yourself (or others). Most healing systems are based on intent and so is Reiki.

    Q Can Reiki heal me?

No promises can be made about the outcome of the use of Reiki (or any other healing system). It all depends on you, your intent, your background and the nature of your problem. Healing is a different experience and has different effects on every individual.
A big step towards healing yourself is to actually realize your need for healing.

Here are some important questions to think about, reflect and answer them truthfully:

    • Do you want to become whole or do you simply want to have your problem go away?
    • Are you willing to make changes in your life that are necessary for your healing process?
    • Do you recognize any patterns in your life that block the flow of energy in your body?
    • Have you taken a serious look at your habits and patterns?
    • What are your eating habits?
    • Do you drink enough water?
    • If you are physically capable of doing so, do you exercise, even if it is no more than a walk around the block?
    • Do you blame others for your illness?
    • Are you holding old grudges?
    • Have you had this illness for a long time? Does it define who you are? Who would you be without it? Do you want to be without it?

OK now you have taken a first step, the next step could be to receive Reiki or even better do a Reiki course so you can help yourself.

Q Can Reiki be used on any illness?

Yes, Reiki can be used on any illness but this does not mean everyone will be healed using Reiki. Reiki will help restore the balance in the body and can relieve or even remove symptoms. Reiki has successfully been used on conditions such as reducing stress, relieving pain, headaches, stomach upsets, back problems, asthma - respiratory problems, PMT, menstrual problems, sinus, anxiety and many many more. Remember that you as an individual have to have the firm intention of getting well before any real healing can take place.

(Please observe that Reiki should never be used instead of medical treatment, it should be used as a compliment and a way to become and remain healthy.)

Q What does a Reiki treatment consist of?

You relax, fully dressed, on a couch or seated while the healer holds his hands on or above you. A treatment can last an hour or longer depending on the treatment required. In the western world many practitioners use the standard hand positions and commonly a full treatment is given covering all the important organs of the body.
There is no pressure on the body making it ideal for treating all ages and conditions, sometimes hands are even held away from the body.

Q What will I feel or experience during a treatment?

Once again I will have to say that it differs from person to person and possibly also between different sessions.
The energy flows wherever it is required (spiritually guided) and can normally be felt as a warm sensation or tingling in the body. Receiving Reiki is a very relaxing and soothing experience!
Usually when receiving Reiki you will feel very relaxed and you may have a "floating" feeling. You may feel heat, a tingling or cold under the practitioners hands. These and other feelings come from what the Reiki energy is actually doing in and around your body i.e. adding energy, removing excess energy, balancing, removing blockages etc. It is also possible that you experience different emotions or thoughts you had forgotten might pop up. If they do you are probably supposed to learn something and release them. Some people receive insights on how to solve problems.

Remember that all healing starts a process of release, this could be emotions or even toxins in your body that you need to get rid of. You might initially even feel worse than before but this is soon passing. You can help your body by drinking lots of water.

Q How many treatments should I have?

There is not really a set number. Every person and his/her problem is different. Some people only  require  one  or  two  sessions  while  others need several. If you are just interested in seeing what Reiki can do for you then just take one or two sessions.  If you  have  a chronic problem you want to work with then make a plan. Suggestion: Start with one session per day for 4 days and then follow up with one session per week.

Remember that a Reiki initiation in itself is a powerful healer. After an initiation you are also in a much better situation to move yourself towards a balanced and healthy life.

    FAQ- MASSAGE THERAPY

Q What Should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

Your massage thera pist will require you to fill out a health history form. Afterwards the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints.

Q Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

    Q. What do I wear during the massage?

Depending on the primary technique your therapist uses, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.

Q What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she or he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

Q How will a massage feel?

It usually depends on the techniques used. Many massage therapists use a form of Swedish massage, which is often a baseline for practitioners. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes (effleurage) that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that the massage therapist can use another approach or technique.

Q Will the massage oils used make me break-out?

Most massage therapists use hypoallergenic massage oils or lotions. However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotion please bring it to the massage therapist's attention as most practitioners have an assortment of oils and lotions on hand.

Q Is a massage always appropriate?

No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That's why it is necessary that you fill out the health history forms and before you begin your session. The massage therapist will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Your massage therapist may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor.

Q How long will a massage treatment last?

The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow relaxation time prior to and after the session.

Q How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. Massage therapists sometimes recommend a hot Epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment.
